5 juni 1944. Voorafgaand aan de D-Day invasie wordt een geheime missie gelanceerd. Een kleine elitegroep van Amerikaanse parachutisten land achter de vijandelijke linies te midden van de Duitse infanterie. Hun enige taak is om lang genoeg in leven te blijven om een strategische locatie te vinden om uiterst geheime navigatieapparatuur te installeren die nodig is om de luchtaanval op D-Day te begeleiden. De elite-eenheid is samengesteld uit verschillende militaire eenheden. Ze zijn vreemden voor elkaar die op het laatste moment bij elkaar zijn gezet zonder voorbereiding en met twee verschillende officieren. Dit is een recept voor een ramp, een schending van alle regels voor oorlogsvoering en alleen een wonder kan deze missie doen slagen.
